Mobile Lab at Work

Mobile Lab
on the Move
In Arizona

A new mobile lab is conducting confidential irrigation system evaluations on-site for West Pinal, Eloy, and Florence-Coolidge Natural Resource Conservation Districts (NRCD's).

Mobile labs have proven a very effective means of augmenting the technical capability of farmers, giving them hard data about what is happening in their fields. The matching funds program between the USBR and the three NRCD's will help farmers improve their water efficiency by providing several services.

MOBILE LAB ACTION ITEMS:

  • Determination of existing uniformity, efficiency, and application rates
  • Suggested modifications in design, operation, maintenance or scheduling
  • Estimates of the potential for water and energy savings by adapting modifications

The lab will conduct 20 evaluations a year, through 1999. Each year the results are discussed in a public workshop.
